The Scranton Area Community Foundation is proud to announce five newly elected members of the Board of Governors. Marion Munley, Esq.; Joseph P. Bannon MD, FACS, FASCRS; Ryan McGowan; Paul C. Woelkers, R.T.(R), Hon. D.H.L.; and William Conaboy, Esq.; have joined 15 other board members to serve as stewards of the Foundation to carry out the mission of enhancing the quality of life for all people in the Lackawanna County region through the development of organized philanthropy.
Serving a term of a maximum of three three-year terms, or nine years, the new board members have been elected because of their varied skill sets and their knowledge and understanding of community issues and opportunities.
Marion Munley, Esq., is a partner at Munley Law. For over 30 years, she has represented individuals and families in catastrophic and complex personal injury litigation with a special focus on cases involving commercial truck crashes. She is known for her compassionate and tireless devotion to her clients and their families.
Throughout her career, Marion has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to mentoring other women lawyers. In 2016, the Pennsylvania Bar Association honored Marion with the Lynette Norton Award in recognition of her excellence in the law and her dedication to mentoring other women lawyers. In 2020, she received the Marie Lambert Award from the AAJ Women’s Trial Lawyers Caucus in recognition of her exemplary leadership to the profession, to her community, to AAJ, and to the Women Trial Lawyers Caucus.
Whether through her commitment to provide the best possible representation to her clients or her fierce conviction to do whatever she can to protect the civil justice system, Marion’s goal is to always make a difference. In 2022 she was elected as Parliamentarian for the American Association for Justice (AAJ), a national trial bar. She was also the first woman to chair AAJ’s Trucking Litigation Group and a past chair of the Women Trial Lawyers Caucus. She is also active in the Pennsylvania Association for Justice (PAJ) and sits on its Executive Committee and Board of Governors.
Marion lectures around the United States to lawyers on topics related to trial advocacy.
Joseph P. Bannon MD, FACS, FASCRS, grew up in Northeast Pennsylvania and is a graduate of Scranton Prep. He is a 1983 graduate of the University of Scranton with undergraduate degrees in biology and history. He then went on to Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, graduating in 1987. He completed his residency in general surgery at Albert Einstein Medical Center in 1992, serving as chief resident. He then completed a fellowship and colon and rectal surgery at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital and stayed on staff at Jefferson after his fellowship. He returned to Northeast Pennsylvania in 1994 and was a founding partner in the multidisciplinary surgical
group Delta Medix. He has been in the practice of general, colorectal, and breast surgery in Northeastern Pennsylvania for the past 29 years. He served as Chair of the Department of Surgery at the Regional Hospital of Scranton from 2011-2016 before taking a full-time position with Geisinger in 2016 and now practices at Geisinger Community Medical Center, Scranton. He is an Associate Professor of Surgery at the Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine and is the Program Director for the General Surgery Residency Program at Geisinger Northeast.
Dr. Bannon has authored numerous articles and textbook chapters in the field of surgery. He has served on many regional and national boards including the Board of Governors of the American College of Surgeons and the Board of Trustees of the University of Scranton. He is a past president of the Lackawanna County Medical Society. He currently serves on the executive committee of the Keystone Chapter of the American College of Surgeons and the Board of Directors of the Northeast Healthcare Foundation.
Dr. Bannon and his wife Tracy have 5 children and 2 grandchildren. He resides in Waymart.
Ryan McGowan currently serves as Vice President, Public Finance Relationship Manager at Fidelity Bank in Dunmore. In his role, he serves as the central contact for all municipal and public sector clients.
In addition to joining the Scranton Area Community Foundation Board of Governors, he is also a Government Affairs Committee Member for the Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce, serves on the Board of Directors for Outreach – Center for Community Resources, is a board member on the Luzerne County Community College Foundation, and is a regional board member for the Pennsylvania Economy League.
Ryan has a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Marywood University. He lives in Dunmore with his wife, Amanda, and his three daughters, Emily, Lucy, and Maddie.
Paul C. Woelkers, R.T.(R), Hon. D.H.L. has worked in the Mobile X-Ray business for over 38 years and has negotiated contracts with Nursing Facilities in seven states within the Mid-Atlantic Region. He is President/CEO at Lackawanna Mobile X-Ray, Inc.
Paul is a member of the board of directors at Fidelity Bank and serves on the Diocesan Finance Council – Diocese of Scranton for Most Reverend Joseph C. Bambera.
He has served as a Trustee for Misericordia University Board and is a former Director at Landmark Community Bank where he served as Chairman of the board for six years.
In 2007 he has received an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Humane Letters from Misericordia University.
In addition to providing his services to facilities in PA, NJ, and Maryland they are also the current provider for game day X-Ray services to Temple University Football Team and the NFL’s Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs.
Paul and his wife, Irene, have 4 children and 2 grandchildren.
William Conaboy, Esq., currently serves as President and Chief Executive Officer for Allied Services Integrated Health System, a role he has held since 2009. Prior to his current position, he was Chief Operations Officer, Senior Vice President/General Counsel and Corporate Compliance Officer for Allied from 1992 – 2008.
Bill has played a key advisory role on boards with numerous local organizations. He currently serves as Board Chair of Northeast Regional Cancer Institute and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Pennsylvania Rehabilitation and Community Providers Association. He is a Director of First National Community Bank. He is a past Chairman and board member of the Lackawanna College Board of Trustees, and a past board member of the Regional Advisory Council of the Commonwealth Medical College, Scranton Chamber of Commerce, Northeast Pennsylvania Boy Scouts of America, Scranton Boys and Girls Club, Ronald McDonald House of Northeast Pennsylvania and formerly served as an original member of the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board.
He currently resides in Lake Winola with his wife, Mary Ellen. The couple has three children: Attorney William P. Conaboy, Jr. PharmD and wife, Rachael; Attorney Andrew J. Conaboy and wife, Laura; Attorney Jordann R. Conaboy; and five grandchildren.
