Harry P. McGrath Memorial Golf Tournament Benefits YMCA’s Summer Learning Loss Prevention Program

On Friday, September 15th, the Harry P. McGrath, Esq. Memorial Fund hosted its 4th Annual Golf Tournament & Dinner Celebration at the Glen Oak County Club. During this event, over $$43,750 was raised in donations. Funds raised from this event will be used to benefit the YMCA’s Summer Learning Loss Prevention Program.

A Community Confronts Violence: A New Vision

The Defenders of Democracy Fund at the Scranton Area Community Foundation is hosting a FREE public forum on Thursday, October 12th at Marywood University’s Nazareth Hall at 6:30 PM.

The Defenders of Democracy was established and is administered through the Scranton Area Community Foundation to foster issues in civic engagement.

“The Scranton Area Community Foundation supports events that bring the community together to work on solutions that enhance the quality of life for all people in Northeastern Pennsylvania,” stated Laura Ducceschi, President and CEO of the Scranton Area Community Foundation. “This event aims to convene the community to work on solutions that address violence within our communities. It is an important topic that has become increasingly frequent in community conversations, both locally and nationwide.”


NEPA Invitational Charity Event hosted by Pro Golfer Brandon Matthews

The third annual NEPA Invitational, hosted by PGA TOUR player Brandon Matthews, will be held at the Country Club of Scranton on the weekend of September 22nd-24th. The NEPA Invitational is a pro-am golf tournament that brings together professionals, high-level amateurs, and golf aficionados alike.

Proceeds from the 2023 NEPA Invitational will support Geisinger Janet Weis Children’s Hospital and the William Lawler Scholarship Fund through the Scranton Area Community Foundation.

This year, the event will kick off Friday, September 22nd, with a ‘Dinner with the Pros’ event at the Country Club of Scranton. Dinner, live entertainment, and a live auction are included, and a limited number of tickets are available online at www.nepainvitational.com/dinnerwiththepros.

Spectators are welcome to attend the golf tournament on September 22 and 23 at no cost. The event also accepts direct online donations at www.givebutter.com/nepainvitational.

To date, the NEPA Invitational Fund at the Scranton Area Community Foundation has provided $150,000 to support a variety of charities including the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northeastern Pennsylvania, Children’s Advocacy Center of NEPA, Meals on Wheels of NEPA, Inc., Outreach, and United Way of Lackawanna and Wayne Counties, in addition to Geisinger Janet Weis Children’s Hospital.

The NEPA Invitational and Matthews have worked closely with the Scranton Area Community Foundation to establish the William Lawler Scholarship, awarded to a NEPA area junior golfer who will play collegiate-level golf.


Picnic in the Park: Paperback Edition

The Paperback Foundation invites you to attend their first annual Picnic In The Park on Sunday, October 15th at Lackawanna County’s McDade Park.

Enjoy live music by Daddy-O & The Sax Maniacs, local eats and crafts, environmental education, and a day full of family fun. The event hopes to shed light on the importance of revitalizing natural areas, creating habitats for biodiversity, and improving our communities!

As a way to commemorate Center City Print’s 10 year anniversary, the Paperback Foundation was established at the Scranton Area Community Foundation to promote positive environmental initiatives in communities across Pennsylvania.
