Maggie Martinelli promoted to Chief Operating Officer
Congratulations to Maggie Martinelli, who was recently promoted to Chief Operating Officer at the Scranton Area Community Foundation. In her new role, Maggie will assume a higher level of responsibility for aspects of internal operations, internal dynamics, and processes. Maggie will be focused on issuing in continued growth for the Foundation, expanding community initiatives and deepening their impact, and ensuring the high quality expected of the Foundation’s work. This role is important for a growing, expanding organization.
Since joining the Foundation in 2016, Maggie has helped to establish nearly 100 charitable funds and has helped to process over $14 million in grants and scholarships for projects and programs in the community. Some highlights of her work include the integration of a new grants and fund management system, providing real-time access for 300+ charitable fund holders, and immediate, convenient access to online scholarship and grant applications. Aligned with the Foundation’s goal to respond to the needs of the communities we serve, Maggie was instrumental in helping to create and deliver a streamlined application process enabling nonprofit organizations to access grant funding quickly through the $1.2 million NEPA COVID-19 Response Fund. She has managed programming through the Foundation’s Center for Community Leadership & Nonprofit Excellence, providing access to dozens of cutting-edge training and technical assistance programs for nonprofit organizations annually, and the popular NEPA Learning Conference, which serves over 200 nonprofit professionals on a biennial basis.
In her volunteer work, Maggie has served on the boards for six organizations, including serving as the President of the Junior League of Scranton and Cinderella’s Closet of NEPA. She has been recognized on the Northeast Pennsylvania Business Journal’s Top 20 Under 40 and has received a number of Junior League awards including the Mary Harriman Award, the Margaret L. Richards Award, and the Association of Junior League International’s Rising Star Award.

Brittany Pagnotti awarded the Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) designation
Congratulations to our Communications Manager, Brittany Pagnotti, who received her Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE) certification in December, joining over 7,500 other professionals around the world with this designation. The CFRE demonstrates a depth of knowledge in the highest ethical and professional standard of fundraising and confirms support for the Donor Bill of Rights. Individuals awarded the CFRE credential have met the standards set by CFRE International, including a written examination, tenure in the profession, education, and demonstrated achievement in fund development.

Ellen Burkey recognized as a Most Influential Woman in NEPA!
Congratulations to our Board Vice Chair, Ellen Burkey, for being recognized as one of Happenings Magazine’s Most Influential Women in NEPA! You can find her appearing in the January 2023 edition of Happenings!
Ellen Burkey is recognized as a proud force behind the Women in Philanthropy initiative with the Scranton Area Community Foundation. She has been involved with Women in Philanthropy since its inception in 2014. Ellen joined the Board of Governors at the Scranton Area Community Foundation in 2019.
“I am extremely proud of the work that we continue to do for our community. It is my honor to continue to pursue the mission of this incredible community foundation,” Ellen said in the article.
