Recognizing our 2023 Annual Community Celebration Featured Funds…

On the evening of Thursday, December 7, 2023, the Scranton Area Community Foundation hosted its 2023 Annual Community Celebration at the Hilton Scranton and Conference Center, celebrating a record year of grantmaking and recognizing the impact of notable charitable funds and community partners making a difference.

During the event, we acknowledged funds that have led the way in making a significant impact over the year. Featured Funds included the Fendrock Family Fund, the Susan Burke Foundation for Colon Cancer, and the Sondra G. and Morey M. Myers Charitable Gift Fund Learn more about each fund below.

Fendrock Family Fund recognized for its impact and support of lifelong learning

In 2009, the Fendrock family began recognizing graduating students of Carbondale Area Jr./Sr. High School with an annual scholarship. That scholarship was endowed in November 2021 with the creation of the Fendrock Family Fund. The Fund provides the Fendrock Family Scholarship to graduating students who pursue post-secondary education. The Fund is named for John J. and Cecelia (Stefanides) Fendrock, the six children they raised in their home in Simpson, Pennsylvania, and their descendants. John and Cecelia’s formal education ended with grade school. Still, their belief in the importance of lifelong learning is their legacy.
