James F. Swift had a strong desire to provide support for higher education for the young people of Lackawanna County.  The James F. Swift Scholarship Fund was originally created by a gift to the foundation in 2002. After his death, the foundation received an unanticipated large bequest from Mr. Swift to add to the scholarship fund. Thanks to the generosity of Mr. Swift, students graduating from most of the Lackawanna high schools have received scholarship grants.  There are currently seventy-one (71) active scholarships, including 53 renewed awards and 18 newly approved awards. Over a million dollars in James F. Swift Scholarship grants have been distributed to date. Find out more about the James F. Swift Scholarship Program through Scranton Area Foundation
