Field of Interest Funds
Field of Interest funds are funds whereby a donor designates a special area of interest (i.e. education, arts, health, etc.) in which grants may be made from the fund. These funds may benefit a particular charity or organization or they may be used to support a more broad charitable cause, such as education, the arts, health, youth or the disabled, etc.
The Foundation then seeks out worthy projects within this defined field of interest. The donor contributions are used to meet the most pressing needs within that discipline, and continue indefinitely according to the donors’ original intent. Some donor’s who create field of interest funds enjoy participating in the process of identifying worthy projects.
Whether it be in such areas as education, health, or the arts, this type of fund allows you to support a particular broad charitable cause and be assured that your gift will meet the most pressing needs within that discipline, and continue indefinitely according to your original intent.
Scranton Area Foundation provides grants from our Field of Interest Funds to organizations like the United Way, Easter Seals, and the Northeast Regional Cancer Institute Funds. These funds are used to public facilities and services such as libraries, YMCAs, and literacy programs.
