Join Women in Philanthropy for its Summer Garden Party & Networking Event. Attendees will receive a brief update on accomplishments made possible by Women in Philanthropy and then have time to mingle and network! This is a complimentary event for all Women in Philanthropy Supporters and their friends!

Hors d’oeurves and refreshments will be provided.

Nominate a dynamic woman for the 2024 Margaretta Belin Chamberlin Award or Roseann Smith Alperin Award!

The Margaretta Belin Chamberlin Award and the Roseann Smith Alperin Award are two separate awards that are presented annually through charitable funds established at the Scranton Area Community Foundation. Both awards are provided from charitable funds that were established to memorialize a loved one and honor qualities of excellence that exist in members of our community.

Nominations will be accepted until 11:59 PM on Thursday, August 1, 2024.

2024 Margaretta Belin Chamberlin Award

The Margaretta Belin Chamberlin Award has been presented since 1992 when a fund was established by the family of Margaretta Belin Chamberlin both to honor her memory and to recognize accomplishments of women in our community while encouraging their personal and/or professional development.

This award is presented annually to a woman whose vision, dedication and courage has enhanced the quality of life and expanded the opportunities for the people within her community; and whose creative interests, energies and service to others have contributed substantially to the betterment of her community.

The recipient of this award will receive a monetary award of $1,000 for the purpose of enhancing her role as a community leader interested in improving the quality of life in Lackawanna County.

Nominations for the Margaretta Belin Chamberlin Award may be made by any charitable organization or submitted by individuals.

Mulrine, Natalie Gelb, Mary Ann LaPorta, Sr. Margaret Gannon, IHM, Mary Belin Rhodes, Sondra Myers, Nancy Dressel, Jeanne Bovard, Suzanne Fisher Staples, Jane Oppenheim, Sister Ann Walsh, Nada Gilmartin, Michelle Dempsey, Laurie Cadden, Maureen Maher-Gray, Mary-Pat Ward, Maria Montoro Edwards, Teri Ooms, and Karen Clifford.

2024 Roseann Smith Alperin Award

The Roseann Smith Alperin Award was established by the Junior League of Scranton to recognize an outstanding female volunteer who exhibits the heart and spirit of Roseann Smith Alperin by demonstrating the capacity to lead, motivate, and inspire others and the community she serves. The Roseann Smith Alperin Award honors an area woman who has the capacity to encourage others to make more of themselves and the community they serve.

Through this award, the award recipient has the opportunity to donate $500 to a nonprofit organization of their choice. The nonprofit organization that nominates the winning recipient also receives a $500 prize!

All nominations must be submitted online through the Scranton Area Community Foundation Grant Portal.

Once you log in to the Scranton Area Community Foundation’s online grant portal, you will be able to submit your nomination.

The recipients of the Roseann Smith Alperin Award and the Margaretta Belin Chamberlin Award will be presented at the Women in Philanthropy Annual Celebration on Thursday, November 7, 2024. More information about this event to follow.
