SAF Funds Announce 2024 Grant Cycles Starting July 1st!
The following funds at the Scranton Area Community Foundation will hold their 2024 grant cycles from July 1, 2024 to August 12, 2024. All applications must be submitted through the Scranton Area Community Foundation’s online grant portal.

Steamtown Museum Association Fund
The Scranton Area Community Foundation is now accepting grant applications for the annual Steamtown Museum Association Fund distribution. $21,230.00 is available for distribution from this fund in 2023.

Grant distributions from the Steamtown Museum Association Fund are used for the restoration and preservation of railroad artifacts and related educational projects.

About the Steamtown Museum Association Fund

The Steamtown Museum Association Fund was established in September 2010 through the Steamtown Museum Association to support the restoration and preservation of railroad artifacts and for related educational projects related to the Steamtown National Historical site.
MHA Memorial Shelter/Rescue Fund

The MHA Memorial Shelter/Rescue Fund at the Scranton Area Community Foundation is seeking applications from nonprofit organizations for grant funding in support of animal shelters or animal rescue efforts that have a no-kill policy, and which are working to help abused, abandoned, or injured dogs.

Grants will not exceed $5,290.00.

All applications must be submitted by 11:59 PM on August 12, 2024 through the Scranton Area Community Foundation’s online grant portal.

About the MHA Memorial Shelter/Rescue Fund

The MHA Memorial Shelter/Rescue Fund was established at the Scranton Area Community Foundation in May 2019 in memory of Mary H. Acker to support animal shelters or rescues. The fund supports Pennsylvania animal shelters and/or rescues with a no-kill policy, working to help abused, abandoned, or injured dogs.
The Humor Therapy Fund
The Humor Therapy Fund at the Scranton Area Community Foundation is currently seeking grant applications from nonprofit organizations who wish to promote laughter and/or humor for the therapeutic benefit of their clients, staff, and/or the community at large.

Whether a nonprofit organization wants to bring smiles to children, hold a comedy improv workshop to improve staff morale, or create a humor toolkit, the Humor Therapy Fund of the Scranton Area Community Foundation can provide the necessary support.

Qualified nonprofit organizations must demonstrate how their program/project relates to humor therapy or supportive humor.

Grants will not exceed $870.00

The Humor Therapy Fund of the Scranton Area Community Foundation presented a check to The Boys and Girls Clubs of NEPA earlier this year to host the acclaimed ‘Josh and Gab’ kindness and bullying-awareness musical comedy program. The program delves into topics such as tolerance, positive expression, making healthy choices, and embracing creativity as a positive alternative to negativity.

About the Humor Therapy Fund

The Humor Therapy Fund, established at the Scranton Area Community Foundation in 2005 by Jeannine Luby, supports activities by a 501(c)3 organization that promote laughter and humor for the benefit of its clients or the community.

Whether a nonprofit organization wants to bring smiles to children, hold a comedy improv workshop to improve staff morale, or create a humor toolkit, the Humor Therapy Fund works to provide the necessary support.

To date, the fund has provided support to organizations including Laughing at My Nightmare, Volunteers in Medicine, Deutsch Institute, VNA Hospice and Home Health, and NAMI Northeast.

To apply, you will need to log on to your organization’s account in our online grant management portal. If your organization does not have an account established, you will need to create an account.

At the login page, please follow the appropriate next step:

If someone else in your organization has already created a login: please email grants@safdn.org to have a new user added to your organization.

If your organization has never accessed our online grant portal, create your account using the following information:
A username that is an email address
Your contact information
Your organization’s information, including the EIN/Tax ID number (required)
Contact information for the organization’s Executive Officer
On the applicant dashboard, select “Apply” along the top menu to view available grants. Select the grant you wish to apply for from the list.
