People are exhausted from trying to meet end-of-year goals, from supporting friends and loved ones who are struggling, from this overwhelming year that included the Russian invasion of Ukraine, mass shootings in Buffalo and Uvalde, the ongoing pandemic, and on and on.

Katharine Mannings, President of Blackbird DC, has decided to hold this informative webinar after many organizations struggling with similar issues requested her help in navigating burnout in the workplace.

This training will be presented by Katharine Manning, author of The Empathetic Workplace: Five Steps to a Compassionate, Calm, and Confident Response to Trauma on the Job.


About the Presenter

Katharine Manning is the President of Blackbird DC, which provides training, facilitation, and coaching on empathy at work, particularly in challenging times when it matters most. Katharine has advised organizations on working with those in trauma for more than twenty-five years, including fifteen years as a Senior Attorney Advisor at the Justice Department, where she worked on cases like Madoff, the Boston Marathon bombing, and the South Carolina AME Church shooting. Prior to her government service, she was an attorney in private practice representing Fortune 500 companies in class actions, insurance, and media cases. She teaches at American University and in the Masters in Trauma-Informed Leadership Program at Dominican University, and is a graduate of Smith College and the University of Virginia School of Law.


This training program is offered free of charge to all nonprofit participants, thanks to funding from the Scranton Area Community Foundation.

The Center for Community Leadership and Nonprofit Excellence’s Program Planning for Impact training series continues on Wednesday, January 25th, with two 3-hour in-person segments at the Hilton Scranton.

The Center for Community Leadership & Nonprofit Excellence has partnered with Laurel Molloy of Innovations Quantified to present a 3-part series to teach nonprofit organizations how to understand, measure, maximize, and communicate their impact in a meaningful way.

Part 1: Program Planning for Impact
9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
Includes a continental breakfast beginning at 9 a.m.

Part 2: Data Collection – How to Track What Matters Most
1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Includes lunch beginning at 12:30 p.m.
