Nonprofit Financial Oversight for Board Members
August 20th | 5:30 PM – 8:00 PM
Led by Jerry Musheno and Matthew Hagerty
Strong nonprofit organizations rely on board members who understand not only the mission but also the financial responsibilities that help protect and sustain it. This practical workshop is designed for nonprofit board members, executive directors, finance committee members, and emerging board leaders who want to strengthen their confidence in financial oversight and fiduciary governance. Drawing on real-world nonprofit examples, participants will learn how to interpret key financial reports, recognize warning signs of financial distress, understand their legal and ethical responsibilities, and ask the right questions to support informed decision-making.
The session will explore the board’s role in budgeting, cash-flow oversight, audits, internal controls, risk management, fundraising accountability, and the protection of donor intent. Participants will leave with a clearer understanding of the three fiduciary duties—care, loyalty, and obedience—and practical tools to help ensure their organization remains financially healthy, compliant, and mission-focused.
