The Wilderness Fund Scholarship provides the full tuition cost plus travel expenses* for a student to participate in an
Outward Bound program, the leading provider of outdoor education programs that allow young people to explore their personal potential.
Expeditions include backpacking trips, mountaineering trips, whitewater rafting trips, canoeing trips, dog sledding expeditions, sailing trips and many other offerings.
*Scholarship award up to $4200 is paid directly to Outward Bound to cover cost of the trip. Additional $1,000 reimbursement of travel and related expenses will be paid to recipient upon submission of verifiable receipts.

Executive in Residence Grants
Lackawanna College was recently awarded an Executive in Residence grant from the Scranton Area Community Foundation’s Center for Community Leadership and Nonprofit Excellence. The $2500 grant is for Lackawanna College to a build a multi-stage diversity and inclusion improvement plan.
Executive in Residence program was created in 2019 to allow nonprofit and other civic organizations in the region the opportunity to receive one-on-one support to increase their organizational capacity.
The Executive in Residence Consultant Grant Program provides grants to nonprofit organizations in order to procure this one-on-one support in specific fields and disciplines. The executives may provide hands-on assistance, expertise, coaching and/or knowledge to help accomplish a particular organizational goal and to help build the organization’s capacity for the future.

Scranton Area Community Foundation Board of Governors member
Dr. Lia Richards-Palmiter was recently featured in an article by
Happenings Magazine that chronicles her important work with BIPOC students and DEI initiatives in the region over the past 20 years.
We are proud to have Dr. Richards-Palmiter serving on our Board of Governors. Her tireless work advocating for disenfranchised and underserved communities serves as an inspiration to us all.
On Friday, January 28th and Saturday, January 29th from 9:00 am – 11:00 am, Dr. Richards-Palmiter will also be leading
Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) discussions.
These conversations will be hosted by The Scranton Area Community Foundation in partnership with the
Moses Taylor Foundation,
Geisinger,
Greater Scranton Chamber of Commerce, and the
Greater Scranton MLK Commission.
Through these discussions on issues surround diversity, equity, and inclusion, we intend to develop a community-owned strategic blueprint that can be used to drive regional investment and change.
