Help us set the strategy of the NEPA Animal Welfare Collaborative

On Thursday, January 30, 2020, the NEPA Animal Welfare Collaborative will host a Strategy Meeting from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Hilton Scranton and Conference Center.
This meeting will be to finalize a formal strategic plan for the collaborative based on discussions over the past several NEPA Animal Welfare Collaborative meetings. Teri Ooms, Executive Director of the Institute for Public Policy and Economic Development will take us through a strategic planning meeting, working with attendees to finalize a vision, mission, and targeted objectives in the selected focus areas of spay/neuter TNR, foster homes/homeless animals, and collaborative resources for animal welfare, shelter workers and rescuers.
This Strategy Meeting is open to participants in the NEPA Animal Welfare Collaborative interested in having a voice in steering and shaping the activities of the NEPA Animal Welfare Collaborative. We invite directors, founders, or leaders of animal shelters, individual rescue organizations or groups, and related animal welfare organizations to participate. If preferred, another representative from the organization or group can attend on their behalf.

Potential ideas to be discussed include:
-Hosting a Pet Expo in Northeastern Pennsylvania
-Opportunities to connect with legislators and deliver a message that resonates
-Forming a local veterinary alliance
-Developing a standard of best practices to coincide with the logo that participating organizations can “sign on” to- and in turn will receive value for doing so, a stamp of approval for adherence to standards, professional development, etc.
-Creating a helpline or mobile app for animals with no options or to streamline rescue
-Hosting community trainings to minimize the number of dogs being returned to rescue
-A coordinated media campaign to promote one of the targeted issues of importance
-Trainings for animal shelter and rescue staff on issues such as fundraising, developing major gifts, and legislative issues

On February 19, 2020, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., join us for an advocacy training presentation with the State Director of the Humane Society of the United States, who will take us through successful efforts and practices to advocate and move legislative issues further. More information to follow.
The NEPA Animal Welfare Collaborative is a project of The Scranton Area Community Foundation. Established in 2019, the NEPA Animal Welfare Collaborative is a collective of animal shelters, rescues, advocates, and sanctuaries in the region that are interested in coming together to advance various causes in animal welfare and to increase the collective resources available to these agencies. Activities of the collaborative include education, professional development, fundraising and other practices that move the goals of the collaborative forward. The Scranton Area Community Foundation serves as the convener of the NEPA Animal Welfare Collaborative.
