News and updates about charitable funds making a difference in our communities!
The Scranton Small Business Relief Fund hosted an inaugural Scranton Ice Festival earlier this month in Downtown Scranton, to support the Scranton Small Business Relief Fund.
This free outdoor festival was an opportunity for the community to safely patronize local businesses and generate charitable support for small business owners and employees experiencing hardship during the coronavirus pandemic. Over 25 sponsorships from businesses and individuals helped to raise more than $35,000 for the relief fund.
The Scranton Small Business Relief Fund was established by community-minded volunteers to help ensure that both employees and owners of small businesses get through the tough economic times brought on by the Coronavirus pandemic.
A new charitable fund has been established to support the Scranton Porch Festival, a new city-wide event centered on community and led by Scranton Fringe Festival to support artists, creatives, and the community through the availability of arts and culture during a difficult year as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Scranton PorchFest Fund will provide charitable support to the Scranton Porch Festival which will run March 20-28, 2021. The festival gives residents and businesses the opportunity to decorate their porches and store fronts as if they are floats in a parade.
Scranton Fringe Festival Executive Director Conor Kelly O’Brien hopes that the Scranton Porch Festival helps to fill some of the void of the postponed Saint Patrick’s Day parade.
O’Brien got the PorchFest idea after learning of something similar in New Orleans, where residents there decorated their homes as parade floats as a creative way to bring the community together and celebrate the arts during a time of canceled parades.

With more than 215 charitable funds and assets of more than $50 million, the Scranton Area Community Foundation distributed over $3 million in grants and scholarships in 2020. Additionally, through foundation management services offered to other private and public foundations, the Scranton Area Community Foundation distributed an additional $1.2 million in grants and scholarships in 2020 through assets under management.
