Scranton Area Community Foundation’s Vivian Williams Appointed to Governor’s Advisory Commission on People with Disabilities

07.08.26

The Scranton Area Community Foundation is proud to announce that Vivian Williams, Vice President of Strategy, has been appointed by Governor Josh Shapiro to serve on the newly established Governor’s Advisory Commission on People with Disabilities.

Created through Executive Order 2026-02, the Commission was established to advise the Governor and state agencies on policies affecting Pennsylvanians with disabilities. Commissioners will help identify barriers, recommend policy improvements, strengthen collaboration across all levels of government, and promote greater access to programs and resources that support individuals with disabilities and their families throughout the Commonwealth.

Williams joins 27 other commissioners from across Pennsylvania who represent a broad range of lived experiences and professional expertise related to intellectual, developmental, physical, sensory, and other disabilities. She will serve a two-year term representing Lackawanna County.

“We are incredibly proud of Vivian and this well-deserved appointment,” said Laura Ducceschi, President and CEO of the Scranton Area Community Foundation. “Vivian has always been deeply committed to creating opportunities for everyone to be seen, heard, and included. She brings a collaborative spirit to everything she does, and I know she’ll be an incredible advocate for people with disabilities across Pennsylvania. This is a wonderful recognition of her leadership, and we’re excited to see the impact she’ll make on this Commission.”

As Vice President of Strategy, Williams leads initiatives that strengthen community partnerships, advance equitable opportunities, and help guide the Foundation’s efforts to address the region’s most pressing needs. Her appointment reflects both her longstanding commitment to disability advocacy and her dedication to fostering communities where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

Governor Shapiro announced the Commission’s inaugural appointments on Julio 8, emphasizing his Administration’s commitment to ensuring people with disabilities have a meaningful voice in shaping public policy.

The Scranton Area Community Foundation congratulates Vivian on this significant achievement and looks forward to the impact she will make on behalf of Pennsylvanians with disabilities.
