Remembering Dorrance Belin

05.13.26

The Scranton Area Community Foundation warmly remembers and celebrates the life and legacy of Dorrance Belin, a devoted community leader and generous supporter whose commitment to Northeastern Pennsylvania left a lasting impact.

Dorrance served on the Board of Governors of the Scranton Area Community Foundation from 1997 to 2002, including service as Chairman of the Board. During his time with the Foundation, he helped guide the organization’s efforts to strengthen our community and expand philanthropic opportunities across Lackawanna County. His thoughtful leadership, deep sense of civic responsibility, and belief in the power of giving helped shape the Foundation’s continued growth and impact.

Most recently, Dorrance and his wife, Susan, made a generous gift to support the art pedestal on the front lawn of the Scranton Area Community Foundation at the Century Club. The pedestal currently displays the Bells Across Pennsylvania sculpture titled “A City of Hope… A State of Giving,” and will remain as a permanent feature of the Foundation’s front lawn — a lasting symbol of Dorrance’s generosity and connection to this community.

The Board of Governors and staff of the Scranton Area Community Foundation are profoundly grateful for Dorrance’s years of service, leadership, and generosity. His legacy of stewardship and community commitment will continue to inspire the Foundation’s work and the many lives he touched.

We extend our deepest condolences to his wife, Susan, and the entire Belin family as we remember a remarkable individual whose life reflected a true dedication to the common good.
