The Scranton Area Community Foundation is seeking a full-time Staff Accountant to join the team in 2026.

Supervised day-to-day by the Finance and Accounting Manager with oversight from the Chief Financial and Operating Officer, the Staff Accountant supports the financial functions of the Foundation. This role is well-suited for an early-career accounting professional seeking to build experience in nonprofit and fund accounting within a supportive, collaborative environment. This role ensures accurate financial record-keeping, supports donor and grant processes, and helps maintain an efficient and mission-driven environment.

This position is a central link to staff, donors, nonprofit partners, and vendors, ensuring that finance-related tasks are completed accurately, proactively, and with exceptional professionalism.

Responsabilidades clave

Accounting & Financial Management:

  • Operate within the highest level of integrity and confidentiality
  • Prepare and post accounting transactions
  • Maintain accurate fund and accounting records
  • Perform monthly, quarterly, and year-end account reconciliations
  • Support the month-end and year-end close process
  • Assist in preparing internal financial statements and reports for leadership and the Board
  • Process accounts payable and accounts receivable
  • Record incoming donations, ensuring proper donor and fund attribution
  • Support annual audit preparation and respond to auditor requests
  • Ensure adherence to GAAP and nonprofit fund accounting best practices

Grantmaking & Donor Support:

  • Enter all incoming donations and ensure timely acknowledgement letters
  • Enter grants into the system and issue notifications/payments promptly
  • Track grant disbursements and ensure proper coding and documentation
  • Support donor fund reporting and stewardship activities

Cross-Team Collaboration:

  • Interact positively and professionally with staff, donors, nonprofit partners, and community members
  • Prioritize competing needs and manage multiple concurrent projects
  • Accept instructions, produce reports, and carry out tasks thoroughly, accurately, and on time
  • Provide general support to the Finance and Accounting Manager as well as other leadership as needed
  • Perform other accounting and fiscal duties as assigned

Cualificaciones

  • Bachelor’s degree (or Associate’s degree with relevant experience) in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • One to three years of accounting or bookkeeping experience preferred, or equivalent experience gained through internships, coursework, or related roles.
  • Understanding of nonprofit and/or fund accounting is a strong plus.
  • Proficiency with accounting software and standard productivity tools, including Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
  • Strong aptitude for learning new software systems, with curiosity, adaptability, and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated integrity, professionalism, and discretion in handling sensitive and confidential information, with strong attention to detail and sound judgment in financial and compliance-related matters.
  • Highly organized and dependable, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, remain calm under pressure, and adapt to changing needs.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a customer service mindset and the ability to build trust with colleagues, donors, and external partners.

Remuneración y prestaciones

  • Salary Range: $55,000–$60,000, depending on experience
  • Comprehensive benefits package, including: premium health, dental, and vision insurance benefits with modest cost-share by employee; long-term disability, Life insurance, and Short-term disability after six months of service; and contributions to a pension plan after one year of service, and a generous PTO and holiday schedule.
