A special message from our President and CEO about NEPA Gives

Dear Friends and Supporters,

We are all getting ready for NEPA Gives! On Friday, June 5, 2020, for 24 hours, 175+ nonprofit organizations will work together to help boost awareness of the important work nonprofits do in our region, promote the importance of philanthropy, and secure donations to support the work that they do. At the Scranton Area Community Foundation, we have been working diligently with community partners and businesses who are eager to provide support for NEPA Gives through sponsorships and incentives for nonprofits to encourage giving throughout the entire day.

We are thrilled to announce that there are over $160,000 in incentives, bonuses, and matching funds available to participating nonprofits.

Here is a sample list of incentives and bonuses that will be offered: 

First 5 nonprofits in Lackawanna County to reach $1,000
Five prizes ($1,000 each) given to the five organizations in Lackawanna County who first reach $1,000 in online donations.

Highest number of unique individual donors
Three (3) prizes ($3,000 each) given to the Lackawanna County organizations with the highest number of donors overall in three organization size categories.

First 5 nonprofits in Wayne County to reach $1,000
Five prizes ($500 each) given to the five organizations in Wayne County who first reach $1,000 in online donations.
Sponsor: Wayne County Community Foundation

Highest number of unique individual donors
Two (2) prizes ($1,000 each) given to the Wayne County organizations with the highest number of donors overall.

Highest amount of funds raised
Three (3) prizes ($3,000 each) given to the Lackawanna County organizations with the largest amount of funds raised in three organization size categories.

Most donations in the first hour
One prize ($1,000) given to the Lackawanna County organization with the most donations in the first hour.
Sponsor: Schwartz Mack Foundation

Most donations in last hour
One prize ($1,000) given to the Lackawanna County organization with the most donations in the last hour.

WIP Winner
One prize ($1,000) given to the Lackawanna County organization serving women, girls, and their families who have the most individual donations during NEPA Gives.
Sponsor: Women in Philanthropy

Collaborating for the Animals Happy Hour prize winners
Two (2) prizes ($500) randomly selected from organizations who are active members of the NEPA Animal Welfare Collaborative at the Scranton Area Community Foundation who receive donations between 4:00 PM and 7:00 PM.
Sponsor: NEPA Animal Welfare Collaborative Fund

1954 Bonus
One $1,000 prize given to the Lackawanna County organization with the donation made closest to 7:54 pm. (Scranton Area Community Foundation was founded in 1954).

Checkered Flag Bonus
One $1,000 prize given to the Lackawanna County organization that receives the last donation of the event.
Sponsor: Scranton Area Community Foundation

Tag, You’re It! Awards
One $1,000 prize given to the organization that uses the #NEPAGives hashtag on social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) the most.
Sponsor: NEPA Gives registration funds

One $500 prize given to the organization that uses #NEPAGives on social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) the 2nd most.
Sponsor: NEPA Gives registration funds

WVIA Promotion Package Award
One WVIA FM package valued at ($1,000) (enjoy a total of twenty 15-second spots on WVIA FM!) awarded to the organization with the top Peer-to-Peer Fundraiser that raises the most for their organization.

Vision, Strategy, Action! Award
One prize (5 Hours of consulting/coaching services on any strategy-related issue for the Board or the CEO) awarded to a random organization that has raised at least $2,500 by 6:00 PM on June 5.

Promotional Products Prize
One prize ($250 of personalized promotional products of the organization’s choice from Brucelli Advertising Company) to the nonprofit organization that receives the most individual donors from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM EDT on June 5 (example: mugs, pens, or t-shirts branded with their company name).

Power Lunch Hour Prize 
Ten donors who give during the 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM hour will be randomly selected during that hour of giving. The donor’s gift will then be enhanced by a $500 package of $50 restaurant gift card prizes (a total of $5,000 in restaurant gift cards will be distributed) which will be directed to the nonprofit organization where the donor made the gift, which can be used for further donor engagement!

PDQ 24 Hours Award
One $500 gift certificate for PDQ printing services given to the Lackawanna County organization that has at least one donation made to their organization in each hour of the 24 hours of the event. If more than one organization fulfills this requirement, the selection will be random between those eligible organizations.

Marketing Champion Award   
DiscoverNEPA Feature Video Prize Package ($7,500 value) awarded to the nonprofit organization with the highest number of individual donors who participated in the NEPA Gives telethon event.

Breakfast Meeting Prize
Meeting room and coffee break prize package awarded at random to a Lackawanna County nonprofit organization with an annual operating budget of less than $100,000 that raises at least $500 by 9:00 AM.

Signature Event Photography Prize
Signature Event photography package awarded at random to a Lackawanna County nonprofit organization with an annual operating budget between $100,001 and $500,000 that raises at least $750 by 12:00 PM.

To accompany the NEPA Gives day of excitement, we will also be featuring a NEPA Gives video production to air on ECTV Channel 19 and will also stream online on ECTV’s YouTube Channel throughout the day on June 5th. The special video production will feature participating nonprofits, sponsors, and special guests! We hope you will tune in during the day on Friday, June 5th to check out the excitement we have planned for you. Those interested in participating in the video production that will air on June 5th should contact Vivian Williams at vw@safdn.org before Friday, May 29. Everyone is welcome to participate in the virtual event with whatever content they would like to submit. 
We encourage all 175+ participating nonprofit organizations to maximize the day on June 5th. We also encourage everyone to take part in NEPA Gives in some form. Whether you provide support as a donor, a peer-to-peer fundraiser, or simply participate by helping to spread the word about this special time in our history in Northeastern Pennsylvania, we are grateful for you.
