Flood Relief Grant Program Overview

In response to the severe storms that struck Lackawanna County on September 9th, 2023, the Scranton Area Community Foundation is offering three distinct grant programs to assist Lackawanna County residents directly impacted by these flooding events. The programs are designed to respond to the disaster-related needs of:


 

 

Flood Relief Grants for Individuals Located Within the City of Scranton

The Scranton Area Community Foundation is partnering with the City of Scranton to administer the City of Scranton Disaster Recovery Individual Assistance Program. This grant program will benefit individuals living in the City of Scranton directly impacted by the flooding events of September 9th, 2023. Starting Monday, October 30th, City residents can apply for up to $5,000 per household to assist with immediate and critical needs and/or services to recover from qualifying flood damages. Awards will be made on a first-come, first-serve basis. This grant program is made possible through federal American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding. To be considered for funding, the applicant must meet the following eligibility requirements:

In addition to the City of Scranton Disaster Recovery Individual Assistance Program, the Scranton Area Community Foundation has established two distinct flood relief grant programs to support Lackawanna County individuals, small businesses, and community organizations directly affected by the September 9th, 2023 flood events and who are experiencing hardship. Both grant programs are funded through the Lackawanna County Flood Relief Fund at the Scranton Area Community Foundation:

 

 

Flood Relief Grants for Individuals Located outside of the City of Scranton

The Lackawanna County Flood Relief Fund Grant for Individuals will assist Lackawanna County residents impacted by the September 9th, 2023 flood events who do not reside in the City of Scranton. Grants from the Lackawanna County Flood Relief Fund for Individuals may be used for the following eligible purposes:


 

 

Flood Relief Grants for Community Organizations and Small Businesses in Lackawanna County

The Lackawanna County Flood Relief Fund Grant Program for Community Organizations & Small Businesses will assist community organizations and small businesses located in an impacted flood zone within Lackawanna County that have experienced financial hardship due to the September 9th flood events. Grants from the Lackawanna County Flood Relief Fund Grant for Community Organizations & Small Businesses must be used for the following eligible purposes:


The City of Scranton Disaster Recovery Individual Relief program will begin accepting applications on Monday, October 30th, through the Scranton Area Community Foundation’s online grant portal.
Both programs from the Lackawanna County Flood Relief Fund will begin accepting applications the week of October 30th.
