At the Scranton Area Community Foundation, we manage over 180 individual charitable funds that support a wide variety of causes in the community. We strive to be a resource for people who wish to do charitable giving, as well as a catalyst for change and growth. To coincide with National Pet Month, we have a handful of ways we are bringing awareness to the cause of animal welfare in the month of May and beyond.
Scranton Area Community Foundation President and CEO, Laura Ducceschi, takes great pride in helping to guide donors on how to accomplish their individual charitable goals in the community. Sometimes this will include donors who want to establish funds to benefit the health and well-being of animals.
An animal lover herself, Laura established the Laura Ducceschi Fund for Animal Welfare at the Scranton Area Community Foundation in October 2015, through which to do her own charitable giving. A non-endowed fund, it supports issues related to the care and welfare of animals, and humane education. Laura created this fund as a way to provide needed resources to help rescue and rehabilitate animals as well as to educate others on the importance of humane treatment of animals.
Through Laura’s personal charitable endeavors, during National Pet Month, she is helping to bring a special showing of the award-winning film The Cat Rescuers
to Cinemark in Moosic (40 Glenmaura National Blvd, Moosic) on May 14, 2019, in order to highlight the important work that animal rescuers accomplish, and in particular how spay/neuter and trap/neuter/release efforts can humanely and kindly help to reduce the number of homeless animals. The Cat Rescuers
highlights spirited volunteer rescuers who have come to the aid of hundreds of thousands of street cats struggling to survive in NYC. While almost sold out, there are some tickets reserved for young people who would like to see the film. If interested, please contact firstname.lastname@example.org
. Tickets are available on a first come, first served basis. For more information on this special showing, please visit
Roundtable Discussion on Animal Welfare
In order to be able to advise donors about issues surrounding animal welfare in the region, the Scranton Area Community Foundation is also bringing together organizations and individuals who provide care, shelter, treatment, sanctuary and rescue services to animals or who have an interest in improving animal welfare in the region. A Roundtable Discussion on Animal Welfare will be held on Tuesday, June 11th, from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Radisson Scranton (700 Lackawanna Ave, Scranton).
