#PhilanthropyFriday: Awarding a 65th Anniversary Mini-Grant and Sharing the Story of the Matt McGloin Fund

On Monday, July 15, 2019, the Matt McGloin Fund, will host its 4th Annual Matt McGloin Charity Golf Tournament at Glen Oak County Club in Clarks Summit to help carry out the fund’s mission and its charitable causes in the Lackawanna County region.

This week, we proudly share the story of the Matt McGloin Fund of the Scranton Area Community Foundation, which was established by Matt McGloin in 2017 to support charitable causes in the Lackawanna County region.

After helping a handful of local nonprofit organizations annually over the years, Matt McGloin decided to form his own namesake fund at the Scranton Area Community Foundation to be able to assist more organizations locally.

To date, the Matt McGloin Fund has provided oral health kits for hundreds of local children and youth, provided funding to help a child being treated for cancer, and provided funding to support veteran’s causes. Additionally, the fund awards a scholarship annually to one male or female graduating senior of West Scranton High School who has participated in athletics, has demonstrated financial need, demonstrated outstanding community service and will be furthering their education by attending a college, university or trade school.

The Matt McGloin Charity Golf Tournament is the largest event that Matt McGloin, along with his family and friends, hosts throughout the year to help grow the fund to maximize its impact in the community. For more information about the tournament, visit:

McGloin is a 2008 graduate of West Scranton High School and is currently a free agent in the National Football League. He spent four seasons with the Oakland Raiders and has spent time with the Philadelphia Eagles, Kansas City Chiefs, and Houston Texans. “I’m thankful for the amazing outpouring of support from generous people in NEPA. Thank you to all who provide support to the Matt McGloin Fund, whether through the Charity Golf Tournament or other opportunities. I am proud to see the support stay right here in the Lackawanna County region and I’m excited to see all we can accomplish to help those in need in the community through the Fund,” said McGloin. “The Scranton Area Community Foundation has been an incredible partner to help us make an impact in the community,” he added.

We want to honor and celebrate the generosity of Matt McGloin in allowing us to share his story by awarding our sixth 65th Anniversary Mini-Grant to an organization of his choice. In honor of our sapphire anniversary and to celebrate the loyalty of our donors and the prosperity that their generosity makes possible, we are awarding mini-grants in honor of our donors who are making a difference and who share their stories with us. Matt McGloin has chosen to support Matthew’s Hope 4 Miracles through this $650 mini-grant.

We would like to recognize that our work at the Foundation would not be possible if it weren’t for the generosity of our many charitable donors.

If you would like to SHARE YOUR STORY with us, we would love to hear it! Simply fill out our form online.
